About CaniNectar
CaniNectar is the canine digestive-nutrition brand developed by Tharos Ltd. It brings Tharos research into a product created specifically around canine nutrition, digestive physiology and the practical needs of dogs and their owners.
Scientific roots
Tharos began with scientists approaching digestion from two different disciplines and asking how events earlier in digestion might influence the nutritional environment further along the gut.
That collaboration created the scientific thinking from which Tharos, Enzyme Rich Malt Extract and ultimately CaniNectar developed.

Biochemistry and metabolism
Founder and scientific advisor
Biochemist and former Honorary Reader of Toxicology at the University of Birmingham. Her expertise in biochemistry and metabolism helped shape the investigation of Enzyme Rich Malt Extract and its digestive enzyme activity.
Gastroenterology and digestion
Founder and scientific advisor
Consultant Emeritus in Gastroenterology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. His perspective on the digestive system helped frame the upstream question that became central to the Tharos approach.
From science to CaniNectar
CaniNectar begins with digestion because digestive processes help determine which nutrients are absorbed earlier and which dietary materials continue further through the gut. That remaining material becomes part of the nutritional environment encountered by the existing microbiome.
Food introduces proteins, fats, carbohydrates, fibre and other dietary components.
Enzyme activity helps break larger dietary components into smaller forms.
What remains after earlier digestion and absorption continues further through the gut.
The existing microbial community encounters and responds to that nutritional environment.

A large real-world programme examining digestive and behavioural observations across two independently run phases.
